Almaty – Gorelnik gorge – Titov lake (3100m) – Titov pass (3400m) – Mynzhilki mountain area (3000m) – Tuyuk-su mountain area (2600m) – Almaty.
This trek is quite exciting and challenging. And surely it’s a good chance to enjoy the beauty of Trans-Ili Alatau in two days. Middle altitude forests, snowy peaks and the highlight of the trek – Titov lake. The lake is situated at the foot of the same-name pass, the one we will go over, right into Tuyuk-su gorge – the cradle of Kazakhstani mountaineering.
Day 1. Almaty – “Medeu” Sports Complex – Gorelnik gorge – Titov lake (3100m).
Early drive from Almaty to Medeu high mountain skating rink where you can make some nice pictures. Then we drive up to Medeu mudflow dam, protecting the city and the skating rink from potentially devastating mudflows. And in 10 more minutes we finally reach the starting point of our trek. We start hiking on a well-trodden path along Gorelnik gorge. The path starts in a forest zone and then leads us to the alpine meadow zone, right where Titov lake is. We set up our first camp next to the lake. Dinner.
Day 2. Titov lake (3100m) – Titov pass (3400m) – Mynzhilki mountain area (3000m).
After having our breakfast we set off the camp and start ascending Titov pass. The trail up the pass runs through a quite comfortable scree slope. From the pass you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the whole Trans-Ili Alatau. Then we walk down into the Lesser Almaty river gorge and head towards Mynzhilki mountain area. And then we choose one of two options: Option 1. Set up a camp and stay there overnight, have a hike to Manshuk Mametova glacial lake next day and come back to Almaty the same day. Option 2. Go back to Almaty.
