Almaty – “Shymbulak” ski resort (2260m) – Big Talgar pass (3163m) – Sauruksai gorge – Lesser Talgar pass (2870m) – Left Talgar river gorge – KazPI meadow (2100m) – Butakov pass (2800m) – Kim-Asar gorge – Medeu Sports Complex (1700m)
It is a nice and enjoyable trek to spend your weekend. The itinerary is family-friendly and is a perfect choice if you are making your first steps in mountaineering or simply want to introduce mountains to your kids. You will enjoy the scenery of surrounding snow peaks and alpine meadows of the Lesser Almaty gorge and immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of Left Talgar gorge. Cozy warm evening at the riverside next to the campfire will leave you with the memories that will last forever.
Day 1. Almaty – “Shymbulak” ski resort (2260m) – Big Talgar pass (3163m) – Sauruksai gorge – Lesser Talgar pass (2870m) – Left Talgar river gorge – KazPI meadow (2100m) 4–5 hrs.
We start our trek from “Shymbulak” ski resort. We use ski lifts to go up to Talgar pass and then descend into Left Talgar River gorge crossing over the Lesser Talgar pass. Then we hike down along Left Talgar river towards KazPI meadow and set up our camp there.
Day 2. KazPI meadow (2100m) – Butakov pass (2800m) – Kim-Asar gorge – “Medeu” Sports Complex
We continue our trek after the breakfast. An ascent from KazPI meadow to Butakov pass is quite smooth, and there is a cold spring on the way to the pass. We can stop there for a break. Then we go down into Kim-Asar gorge and walk till we reach the paved road. That is the end our trek. Transfer back to Almaty.
